Abstract :
In this paper, a new algorithm for the total transfer capability (TTC) calculation is proposed. The algorithm is based on full ac optimal power flow (OPF) solution to account for the effects of active and reactive power flows, voltage limits, and line flow limits. Evolutionary programming (EP) is used to solve the OPF-TTC problem. The real power output of generators in source area, real and reactive load in sink area, and bus voltage of generators can be adjusted to obtain the maximum transfer capability. The proposed method is tested on the IEEE 30-bus system and the results are compared favorably with that from the continuation power flow (CPF) method.
