Abstract :
This paper investigates series-parallel resonant inverter for high frequency AC power distribution architectures for future computer and telecom applications. Resonant inverter differs from resonant converter in that the output side of the inverter is subject to linear load directly, while in the converter, a rectifier is followed by a filter with much lower resonant frequency compared to the operation frequency. The resonant inverter in AC DPS is complicated by the factors that the load impedance is unknown and the input line voltage varies for a wide range. Soft-switching design of the resonant inverter is challenging because it is mandatory to take into consideration of load of different power factors as well as the wide input range. Analysis and design curves for the inverter with a general load model are developed and analyzed for non-resistive load conditions. Experimental verifications on one prototype inverter of 1 MHz, output power 150 W at 28 V RMS are presented.
