Remote sensing new tectonic data of the Arabian plate

Abstract :
Remote sensing applications, with petrographic and petrological studies of the northern part of the Arabian plate (Syria), has opened a new horizon for wider conception and greater understanding of geodynamics and kinematics of the Afro-Arabian plate along the great Syrian rift. The variation of the value of the sliding movement from 105-110 km in the southern part to approximately 20-30 km in the northern of the Yamouneh fault (Syria) could be explained by a system of faults discovered by remote sensing applications, and supported by petrological data which shown that the crust thickness decreases from the South to the North. Also a new idea of the origin of Syrian ophiolitic complex has been assumed, but more detailed structural studies of the region are needed.
