Abstract :
The simulation of radar measurement of Martian subsurface is based on the electromagnetic theory of pulse propagation in different media and on the operation principle of the long wave length radar. The reflection coefficient of a layered or an inhomogeneous medium can be calculated by using the transmission line analogy. The reflection coefficient calculated in the plane z=0 include all the contributions of the medium beneath the plane z=0. By using the reflection coefficient the pulse propagation can be calculated. Hence, signals reflected back to the receiver can be simulated. Reflected signals carry the information on the Martian subsurface structure. The processed received signals give the real part and the imaginary part of the reflection coefficient of the measured medium.
