Construction of Distributed and Heterogeneous Data Sharing Platform

Because of the existing of significant amounts of information isolated islands, it is difficult for users to search, to gain and to manage distributed and heterogeneous data. Aiming at problems above, a new solution has been presented in this paper. By combining the description function of metadata, the data management function of database, the distributed computation function of Web service, the GIS server´s components function of ArcGIS Server and the spatial database engine function of ArcSDE, we developed a distributed and heterogeneous data sharing platform. The detail about how to enable the sharing of spatial and non-spatial data has also been given. Furthermore, the platform has been realized take example for environment data. The data´s use efficiency has been improved through this data sharing platform. The material and financial resources spent in data repeated collection were also saved.
