Abstract :
Following a brief overview of FLENUMMETOCCEN processing of SSM/I data, this paper summarizes the status of the SSM/I geophysical algorithms and explains why some of the algorithms need to be updated. The shared processing program (SPP) DMSP SSM/I Algorithm Research Panel (ARP) is identified as the "bridge" between the algorithm developer and operational user. The results of the shared processing program (SPP) DMSP SSM/I algorithm symposium (8-10 June, 1993), subsequent ARP decisions, and implementation of new algorithms are described.
