Abstract :
This paper discusses the dynamic range for surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors incorporated in free running oscillator loops. Investigation of dynamic range is performed for two types of SAW devices known as resonators and delay lines configured in asynchronous and synchronous cases. Phase noise specifications of these SAW devices are considered to determine the lower bound of dynamic range termed as limit of detection while the oscillation conditions are considered to predict the upper bound of dynamic range termed as saturation limit.
