Abstract
The question of whether it is better to use millimeter wave remote sensing under reentering environment is discussed in this paper. When the vehicle reenters the atmospheric layer, high temperature plasma (sheath) forms because of the aerodynamic function and this breaks the signal of the communication and remote sensing equipment in vehicles. This is usually called blackout. The study of blackout shows: a) the transmission varies in different frequency band; b) different vehicle shape leads to distinct reentering flight orbit; and c) the plasma parameters are dissimilar at different height. Considering the classical theory of the interaction between electromagnetic wave and plasma, using engineering experience data the different transmissions of typical vehicles are calculated and analyzed in this paper
