Abstract :
It has been known that the receptive field size of the retinal ganglion cells in a primate increases with eccentricity from the fovea. In our study, we have hypothesized that this morphological feature greatly affect fixation, which is an important function in visual perception. We focus on one of fixation factors, called the proximity of the visual stimulus to the fovea, and discuss the relation between a variation of the receptive field size and fixation. Our computational study has revealed that only the retinal model which has the linearly or quasi-linearly increased receptive field size emulates human-like fixation
