Abstract :
This paper proposes a novel yet simple and accurate technique for determination of core point in fingerprint images. Most previous works need to search the whole image domain to determine the reference point, which requires a lot of processing time. The proposed method obtains the edge map first and then performs edge pixel deletion to reduce the searching space. Finally, core point can be extracted by analyzing the orientation consistency of a few edge pixels in the fingerprint singular regions. Experimental results show that the proposed method is very fast and can effectively detect the core point for all types of fingerprint including the arch type.
