Abstract :
The acidification and restoration process during the start-up of anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) investigated. The results showed that the main reason for acidification was the much low of alkalinity. Once acidification occurred, the reactor could be restored by increasing the alkalinity of the influent. In the various stages of acidification and restoration, the removal rate and contribution rate of COD in each compartments changed regularly, and the operational status of the ABR could be determined. Due to easy measurement methods available, VFA, pH and the removal rate of COD are also used as the important monitoring indicators during the running of the reactor.
