Abstract
The success of a man-machine interface (MMI) primarily depends on user evaluation and acceptance. The analysis of user requirements is a crucial issue in the development of advanced MMIs. However, it has received only limited attention in the literature, and no proven methodology is available to carry out this task in a correct, effective, and efficient way. The aim of this paper is to provide methodological guidelines for carrying out the analysis of user requirements for the design of advanced MMIs. The approach proposed has been tested in a real application concerning an advanced MMI to a complex diagnostic system coupled with the supervision system of a continuous process
