Abstract :
A DNA-based hierarchical clustering algorithm has been proposed in order to bring up a new idea to design the development roadmap of E-commerce in SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises). With the thought of implementing different advices on different types of businesses, this paper transforms the classification of enterprises into the clustering of nodes in an undirected complete graph and the dissimilarity between enterprises in E-commerce is mapped into the weight of edges accordingly. Compared with existing DNA computing algorithms for solving hierarchical clustering, the paper also takes the length of DNA strands into full consideration and makes the space complexity limited within O(n2), which n represents the number of data elements needs to be clustered. Getting great assistance from mature biological techniques, the number of steps needed to read the final result is a constant without varying the polynomial operation time. Guidelines based on clustering results give SMEs the opportunity to learn and communicate within the same cluster and strive to achieve greater progress by planning more reasonable, effective, and practical development paths for the growth of E-commerce.
