Abstract :
The performance and reliability of microwave radar and communication systems are affected by the so-called evaporation ducts over the sea surface. Usually, the evaporation duct height can be determined using evaporation duct model from measured atmospheric pressure, air temperatures, air humidity and wind speed at a single height within the atmospheric surface layer, and sea surface temperature. Evaporation duct heights which are determined from five evaporation duct models using bulk measurements are compared with data from meteorology grads tower which was founded in Bohai Sea. It is shown that, in the same case of atmospheric stratification, the heights of ducts computed by different models are difference. Recommendations for selection of optimal models are given.
