  • Abstract
    Recent improvements in manufacturing concepts and technology, increased competitive pressures, and the need to insure faculty development and modern educational facilities require new forms of industry-academic liaison. Consequently, a prototype program has been developed at the State University of New York College at Buffalo that links faculty expertise and industrial needs to dramatically enhance faculty development and compensation, improve facilities, and increase the productivity of regional industry. Major program results include the provision of low-cost technical services for regional industry; enhancement of faculty expertise; funding for development activities and equipment acquisitions; involvement of students in industrial operations; incorporation of current materials into the instructional program; increased institutional visibility; expanded opportunities for program graduates; and a $20000 endowed scholarship for disadvantaged students enabled by contributed faculty efforts
