Author_Institution :
New Mexico Univ., Albuquerque, NM, USA
Abstract :
The author focuses on adult learners in engineering and continuing education courses and tries to answer why the vocabulary, concept and recipe (VCR) method of teaching would be appropriate for a class containing traditional and returning students. The characteristics of adult learners are reviewed and some examples of the application of the VCR method in teaching thermodynamics are presented. The compatibility of the VCR method with the adults´ learning style is examined
