Abstract :
Large area hydrophones, made with piezoelectric materials working in hydrostatic mode, are becoming widely used in the design of sonar receiving antennas. This paper examines the performances of different types of hydrophones and their resistance to underwater environment (hydrostatic pressure, temperature, underwater explosions). Good results were obtained with porous PZT. Copolymer is also worthy of interest, but the availability of thick sheets (about 1 mm) is required
