Abstract
In this paper it is presented a proposal to get the squirrel cage induction motor parameters by means of a combined, new, trustworthy, simple and cheap process, in order to be used at the first design stages of variable speed drives. In this work three different approaches are combined: the easiest classical tests (stator resistance measurement), the parameter extraction based on the plate motor data, and finally, the three-phase induction motor modeling. The induction motor study field is very interesting, because it is a kind of motor with a simple, robust and low-cost mechanical structure. Moreover, analyzing the great use of these systems, it can be said that a third part of electrical energy is converted again to mechanical energy by means of induction motors, and it is thought they will cover (in ten years) between 60 and 70% of the electrical motors applications [1].
