  • Abstract
Acoustic nonlinear properties of a nonbonded solid-state contact compressed by a static load were studied experimentally. Main attention was paid to a “flapping” CAN mechanism attributed to the contact discontinuity caused by an acoustic wave. Sub- and super- harmonic generation and chaotic CAN behavior were registered in the experiment. CAN was shown to be responsible for an efficient nonlinear scattering of SAWs providing inverse spectral composition of a reflected wave. The feasibility of reflection-mode nonlinear NDE of small surface fractured defects was also demonstrated
