Abstract :
For wide use of data links, the optical transmitters and. receivers in the transceiver modules must be cost-effective. Miniaturizing is also desirable in order to save space for the transceiver modules, which will reduce costs. We propose cost-effective and compact transmitters and receivers with a simplified optical coupling structure and a mini-DEL sized package. The structure of the optical transmitter is shown. All parts, i.e., the lens, LD, GaAs EA driver IC, and monitor PD, are assembled into a mini-DIL-sized package with a Peltier module. The structure of the optical receiver is similar to that of the transmitter. A lens, pin-PD, pre-amplifier IC, and limiting amplifier IC are integrated in the package. The pre- and limiting amplifiers are fabricated by a SiGe bipolar. process for low power consumption.
