Abstract
The interconnection of cellular wireless radio basesites is discussed. The IEEE 802.6 metropolitan area network (MAN) is proposed to facilitate such interconnection over approximately 50 city blocks. These access MAN´s are themselves interconnected via bridges or via asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switches. A distributed database architecture is proposed to facilitate location and tracking of roaming subscribers. Signaling for call setup and handoff is analyzed
