Abstract
This study explored the feasibility of hosting e-commerce (EC) services or applications on a smart phone to take advantage of its attractive strength of high portability and low power consumption. However, if such services are interrupted due to any device or network connectivity or availability problems during the transactions, the EC websites or EC companies may lose business opportunities and even the trust of their customers. Therefore, the Web-feed technology and the grid computing concept were adopted in this study to design a simple, highly available and light weight fault tolerant service scheme that overcomes the drawbacks of traditional high availability (HA) and load balancing approaches. The proposed scheme may be used to enhance the reliability of the proposed EC system, and retain more business opportunities for companies using the system.
