Abstract :
High power RF sources are in development for electron cyclotron heating of fusion plasmas. These sources generate long pulse or continuous power levels exceeding 1 MW, and 2 MW sources are in development. RF loads capable of dissipating 2MW of continuous power are required to test these new sources. 2 MW CW RF loads are being developed that utilize a unique launcher to distribute the power over a surface with controlled loss. The new load is predicted to dissipate the loss in a compact device that avoids arcing due to high electric fields.
