Abstract :
In order to gain a competitive advantage in the market, to increase customer satisfaction and to have a higher profit, many companies are now taking into account, managing the flow of their materials more elaborately as the production process depends exceedingly on this issue. This increase in the importance of supply chain management lead the companies as being buyers, care more about their relations with their suppliers. Besides traditional methods, collaboration focused, cooperative approaches are now capturing attention. One such example is the teamwork between Premier Foods and British Sugar, which worked out so well that the two companies are honored by the Best Supplier Relationship Management Award, in the 2010 Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) Awards. This paper will discuss the traditional and modern approaches in Supplier Relationship Management, and investigate this further with a case study.
