Abstract
The goal of the AR&MS Reliability Engineering Education Workshops is to help engineering college faculty integrate R&M (reliability and maintainability) concepts into their courses and teach their students to consider R&M as well as function and efficiency in the design of a product. The workshops provide a forum for addressing pertinent issues in this regard, including: (1) finding ways to integrate R&M into an already packed curriculum; (2) teaching faculty RAM techniques; (3) initiating and supporting research in R&M; (4) updating textbooks; and (5) determining what should be taught, where in the education process, and to whom. It is pointed out that if engineering faculties are successful in integrating RAM into the engineering curriculum and culture, all engineers will be: taught to design for reliability; trained in the techniques for doing it effectively; and convinced of its importance and cost-effectiveness in the design of a product
