Abstract :
In this paper, we demonstrate an optically fed personal radio link using an actively mode-locked laser and microstrip circular patches as both the transmit and receive antennas. The laser is mode-locked at a fundamental frequency of 2.55 GHz and the resultant microwave modulated optical signal at the second harmonic is used to feed the patch. Our demonstration illustrates the potential of this novel technique to be readily extended to millimeter-wave frequencies. It should be noted that the optically fed link presented also has application in indoor wireless LANs and base-station to base-station links.<>
