Abstract :
Summary form only given. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has demonstrated considerable potential as a method of high-resolution medical imaging. One of the most attractive applications for OCT has been intracoronary imaging for both guiding interventional procedures and the identification of unstable plaque. In initial in vitro OCT imaging of cardiovascular tissue, OCT was shown to identify structural features such as lipid collections, thin intimal caps, and fissures characteristic of vulnerable plaque. In an in vitro study comparing OCT with IVUS at 30 MHz, OCT demonstrated superior resolution both qualitatively and quantitatively.
