Summary form only given. Nd/sup 3+/-activated biaxial yttrium trifluoride (Nd/sup 3+/:YF/sub 3/) is a relatively new single crystal laser material and is also one of the least explored fluoride laser crystals. It was for the first time evaluated as a Nd-activated laser material with flashlamp pumping. Here we present the first, to the best of our knowledge, results on true diode-pumped quasi-cw laser operation of Nd/sup 3+/:YF/sub 3/.
