Abstract :
French Gendarmerie decided in 1988 to replace its radio communications nationwide network by a new nationwide network using modern techniques and dedicated to the public safety operational needs. Matra Communication was awarded a contract from French MOD (Delegation Generale de l´Armement) to develop such a system. This network called RUBIS is the first implementation of a new generation of safety oriented products developed at Matra Communication: the MC 9600 series. Both for economic and technical reasons, solutions have been derived from civilian sources to military applications. This system has been now ordered by an increasing number of safety users (French National Police, Railways, and Catalan Police)
