Abstract :
Summary form only given. A rapidly tunable picosecond mid-infrared OPO based on parametric generation in AgGaS/sub 2/ has been designed. The pump laser for this OPO consists of an actively mode-locked diode-pumped Nd:YLF seed laser (8 ps, 250 MHz), which passes through two Pockels cells that impose a Q-switched envelope on the pulse train with a duration of 7 /spl mu/s (repeated at 10 Hz). This pulse train is amplified up to 60 /spl mu/J per pulse (70 mJ per 7-/spl mu/s pulse) in two double-pass flash-lamp pumped Nd:YLF amplifiers.
