Abstract :
A novel tunable quasi-optical scheme is presented to provide stabilization of both fundamental and second-harmonic oscillators at w-band (75-100 GHz), with excellent isolation from the load. A reduction of phase noise by more than 40 dB on free-running Gunn oscillators at 90 GHz was demonstrated with single sideband phase noise better than -120 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz away from the carrier. This stabilization scheme uses external high-Q transmission and reaction stabilizing cavities, where coupling was achieved by using beam-splitters with low power loss. This technique is applicable to almost any existing oscillator at W-band or above, at any frequency.<>
