Abstract :
An e-learning environment typically comprises three components, namely, a learning management system, a set of e-courses, and a technical infrastructure supporting the learning management system and e-courses. In this paper, we briefly review these components, and propose some principles for good practices of e-learning. In brief, a total e-learning solution should be more than an e-learning platform. Driven by the pedagogy rather than technology, e-learning should be positioned as to complement the traditional classroom-based learning. An e-learning platform need not be developed in-house as open source systems are well available. Finally, e-course development should be the concerted efforts of both teaching staff and technical staff.
