Abstract :
Based on variational principle, we have earlier developed an analytical model for the modal field of index-guiding microstructured optical fibers (MOFs). Using the model, we study the linear properties of MOF such as spot-sizes; their application in calculating numerical aperture NA and splice loss between an MOF and SMF-28 with transverse offset. Comparisons with available experimental and simulation results have also been included.
