  • Abstract
    A new set of complementary subband filters with sharp band characteristics is proposed and the general design procedure is illustrated here. The proposed scheme is shown to have sharper frequency band characteristics compared to the ordinary complementary filters. These filters have a wide range of applications in subband coding for audio and video. A new method is outlined to obtain the class of filters that satisfy the higher order complementary condition for an arbitrary number of channels. This new design procedure can also be used to to generate ordinary multichannel magnitude and power complementary filters with sharper band responses
