Abstract :
The paper will describe the development of an offshore flexible pipeline system which can be quickly deployed from 4 miles offshore to an undeveloped coastline. The system, one of which is presently under construction for the U.S. Navy, is carried aboard a 70,000 DWT tanker. The floating flexible pipe can be deployed the full length in less than 48 hours, using only self-contained system components and small offshore tugs. The system was originally developed to provide a means for the resupply of petroleum products to landing forces. Additionally, the concept can be applied to any requirement where a quickly installed pipeline is required. The flexible pipe construction for this system includes several technical innovations, including the use of Kevlar fibers for pressure resistance. Independent comprehensive testing of the pipeline´s performance has been successfully aecomplished and accepted. Official test reports and documented results are available and can be presented at Oceans´85.
