Abstract :
Corrosion control of materials of construction is a critical component of successful ocean engineering. Premature materials failures represent both financial losses as well as the potential for adverse environmental impact with some ocean structures. The functional and structural integrity of these ocean structures can be greatly enhanced by the application of existing corrosion technology. Recent developments in this technology have permitted the corrosion engineer to develop even more relevant data on materials´ durability in the oceans. This paper summarizes some of these developments in the context of engineering requirements for ocean structures.
