Abstract
The equivalent antenna length concept, which is obtained from the measured S-parameters of a 2-antenna network, is used to characterize the frequency-dependent nature of ultra-wideband (UWB) antennas. Analytical expressions are derived for the voltage waveform at the output of a receive antenna and the equivalent isotropically radiated power (EIRP) from a transmit antenna. In addition, a procedure is outlined to model UWB antennas for circuit design purposes without additional knowledge of the antenna physics.
