Abstract
The adaptive RAM-DFE, which uses a random access memory replacing the transversal feedback filter of the decision feedback equalizer (DFE), has been used to compensate for the trailing nonlinear intersymbol interference (ISI). However, the convergence speed of the RAM-DFE is very slow. The learning speed can be improved by using memory decomposition method to modify the RAM structure. The modified RAM-DFE structure is then applied to the partial response equalization for nonlinear magnetic recording channels. Computer simulations show that the proposed scheme has a faster convergence speed
