Abstract :
The current financial climate both at the Federal level and at the state level has resulted in severe cut backs in services to teachers. There are few programs in many states designed to keep teachers up to date on new developments in their sciences. The marine related industries need to plan now for meeting future needs by actively supporting educational programs designed to improve and update current science education at the pre-college level. The magnitude of the problem demands immediate action. This paper proposes a model for cooperation between marine industries and the educational community to stimulate inservice training for teachers.
