Abstract :
Practical frequency hopped spread spectrum (FHSS) wireless networks and multitone modulated wireline systems can be modeled as sets of interference channels. In these systems, it is desirable to optimize a cost function over the network that includes the transmission rates, blocking probability, and dropping probability for users. This optimization can be approximated using distributed algorithms that do not require explicit communication between pairs of users. We present one such algorithm that is designed to quickly identify a suboptimal, but reasonable solution. The performance of this algorithm is evaluated with simulations of prototype wireline and wireless systems
