Abstract :
In this paper we model the performance of a LEO satellite system with “m” classes of traffic source (heterogeneous services). Each class is defined by different resource and performance requirements, characterized by different bit rates on the uplink and downlink; and different QoS parameters. The CDMA (code division multiple access) multiple access scheme is used and a mobility model is adopted to represent the relative motion of mobile terminals over the satellite spot beams. We investigate the blocking behavior of each traffic class in the network and consider the impact of sub-optimal re-distribution of band resources between the uplink and downlink. Software for the simulation of LEO system has been developed and the results from simulation study of a three traffic class example are shown
