Abstract
An adaptive video coder is presented. The coder is based on motion compensation and subband coding. The probability distributions of the subband signals are modeled by generalized Gaussian distributions. Quantizer design, bit allocation, and entropy coding are then based on these distribution models. The video coder adapts to changes in signal characteristics by updating the distribution models and redesigning the quantizers and entropy codes
