Abstract :
Mobile-IP and its enhancement, internet mobile host protocol (IMHP), have been proposed to support host mobility over the current Internet. In a distributed mobile data networking environment, frequent handoffs between radio cells are likely to degrade end-to-end data transport performance. This motivates us to propose extensions to mobile-IP and IMHP to enhance transport performance by minimizing loss of datagrams during handoffs. The enhancement employs datagram buffering at the foreign agent serving the mobile host before a handoff. Simulation results illustrate the improvements in transport delays, particularly with respect to IMHP
