Abstract :
Summary form only given. Considerable effort is being made to develop optical amplifiers for 1.3 μm use. The praseodymium-doped fiber amplifier (PDFA) has exhibited the good overall performance as regards 1.3 μm amplification and is a promising candidate as an optical amplifier. It has been shown by system demonstrations that PDFAs can play an active part in 1.3 μm optical systems. The recent progress in PDFA development is comprehensively reported in this presentation.
