Abstract :
Decision feedback equalization (DFE) is generalized within the context of linearly modulated data transmission over intersymbol interference (ISI) channels. The main motivation for this new approach is that for channels with severe ISI, linear and decision feedback equalizers have a poor performance while the the Viterbi algorithm has a complexity that is exponential in the length of the ISI channel response. The delayed decision feedback equalizer (DDFE) introduced applies to FIR as well as IIR channel responses
