Abstract :
The author provides information on COMSAT´s experiences in the formulation, development, and continuing activities of COMSAT´s ISDN (integrated services digital network) satellite testbed facility located in Washington, DC. Criteria for several selected public international ISDN satellite demonstrations that utilized satellites in both the INTELSAT and the US domestic systems are described. The selected international demonstrations were associated with telecommunications exhibitions in Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America. Network diagrams, switching equipment arrangements, applications tested, and test results are also included. It is concluded that international ISDN as delivered by the INTELSAT satellite system is the only global ISDN delivery system available today
