Abstract
A technique is proposed for characterizing the response (or waiting) times in terms of probability distribution function or percentiles (e.g. 95th percentiles), given the set of queue-length probabilities. This approach makes use of the Laguerre functions to approximate the distribution functions. A numerical study has been conducted to validate the approach. The high accuracy of the numerical results indicates that the proposed technique is useful for designing and engineering communication and computer systems
