Abstract :
Sea Semester is an undergraduate program offered by the Sea Education Association. Since 1971, Sea Semester has offered an ocean-focused program and opportunity for 1800 students from over 270 colleges to live, work and study at sea. Sea Semester students spend the first half of a twelve-week semester at S.E.A.´s campus in Woods Hole, MA, in an academic program of nautical science, marine science and maritime studies. The second half of the semester takes the students to sea aboard the sailing research vessel Westward. Students spend six weeks as an integral part of the schooner Westward´s crew, with responsibility for her research programs and operation. 135 American colleges and universities regularly grant a full semester´s credit for the Sea Semester experience, which is open to undergraduates from any discipline or major.
