Abstract
A conventional planar two-arm balanced-mode Archimedean spiral antenna has an impedance close to 170 Ω (theoretically 188 Ω) and needs a balun to be fed with a 50 Ω line. The proposed novel modified Archimedean spiral antenna achieves a simple feed without balun by maintaining the antenna input impedance close to 50 Ω over 10:1 frequency band. It shows excellent impedance matching, higher peak gain and acceptable axial ratio over the operating frequencies compared to the conventional Archimedean spiral with the same aperture area.
