Abstract :
In this paper we present new techniques for the automatic reduction of the number of rules required to implement a given fuzzy system. The approach is specifically tuned for the design of efficient and cheap analog systems. The technique is general enough so that it can be applied to several architectures recently proposed in literature. Experimental results show that, on the average, the proposed approach reduces the hardware requirements by a factor two when compared with a straightforward implementation
